Today I was working for West Coast Mountain Guides. I met James and Nicola in Fort William. We started the day with fitting crampons, issuing kit, kit checks, and chatting about what they had done, and wanted from the 2 days – they plan to go to the alps later this year to Climb Mont Blanc, and it sounds like that’ll be the start of many adventures on larger mountains.
In Glencoe we walked up to Coire nan Lochan and covered some winter skills on movement, and use of the boots, the axe, and then crampons. James and Nicola are fast learners and so it enabled us to quickly move onto steeper ground where they were hoping for some excitement. We did the Dorsal Arete at the top of the climb, but this didn’t phase them, and even the steeper chimney, just left them wanting more. After a quick abseil back into the Coire, we started talking about their day 2 on crampons – tomorrow.
