Leading Up Dorsal Arete

Hunter Mountaineering – Private Guiding

Today was Jo’s last day with me, although she has quite a few more days up here to enjoy before she’s off home again. We took a long time to decide what to do, threw lots of ideas around, lots of reading of forecasts, and maps. Finally at about plan ‘F’ we went to do Dorsal Arete in SCNL. The plan was to develop Jo’s leading skill set, perhaps do something harder (the Dorsal Arete pitch), and get a close look at Broad Gully – where she may go on a day when it has a safer ‘feel’.

So, Jo spent the day building belays, leading, and digging for gear, and a little trail breaking. The Dorsal Arete proved to be fun for Jo – so a great day all around.
