Intro Winter / Learn To Lead

My last work of the 2015-16 winter season was a weekend with Karianne and Sam – learning to lead in winter and develop the efficiency of all things winter and leading.

Saturday was a pretty wet day – it rained ALL day, so even by the time we had walked up into Coire nan Lochan, we were wet through, however Sam and Karianne were always smiles and so we had a great day on Dorsal Arete. They alt led the route. We were unsurprisingly the only climbers in the coire. All the main gullies, including Broad Gully had avalanched before we arrived (overnight?).

On the Sunday we headed for the Ice Factor to coach steep ice climbing, and look at belay stance management, efficiency, alt leading, block leading etc. We moved onto crevasse rescue – to help give a little training for some of their next climbing adventures further afield – although Scotland is where it’s at, year round!!
