East Ridge Of Douglas Boulder

Jagged Globe – Snow and Ice Climbing Course.

This week I was with Tim and James. On Monday we went onto Buachaille Etive Mor and climbed North Buttress. We climbed all of the fun pitches an then abseiled off as planned. Unfortunately at some point a rock must have fallen on one of my 60m ropes, and so I now have a 21m rope and a 38m rope (lost 1m through chopping 2 bits out). A bad week for kit loss – I also broke a walking pole, used a 60cm sling on an abseil and lost a pair of gloves at the Ice Factor (Please return them to me – ME Assault gloves in Black, size M). However, Tuesday was a great morning dry tooling and afternoon in the Ice Factor and Tim and James achieved a great deal – this prepped them for the climbing later in the week.

On the Wednesday we got onto Ben Nevis and climbed the awesome East Ridge (IV,5 and 2 stars?**) of Douglas Boulder. We climbed this is 4 pitches (to maximise photo opportunities and keep communication easy). P1=III (start from the left at the base of the East Gully), P2=IV,5, P3=III, P4=II. The climb was in good condition with snow, frozen turf, ice and verglassed cracks.

James and Tim did really well, as did Clive’s team following on behind.
