Ordinary Route (Central Buttress)

Jagged Globe – Snow and Ice Climbing Course. Day 4.

This was a difficult day to make a decision as to what to do. During breakfast my garden went from green to white, and there was thick snow on my van. It had also been snowing overnight. Looking at the hills it was immediately obvious that there was a great deal of fresh snow. Everybody that went climbing or mountaineering on Thursday worked hard to break a trail or clear a route! I chose Ordinary Route (Raeburn’s Route) on Central Buttress in Coire nan Lochan, It turned into a hard day of work with deep trail breaking to do. There had been a big dump of snow. We had a great time on the climb, but we did have to manage some loose rocks in a couple of places – I didn’t want another cut rope! This route wasn’t even plan A, B or C but Tim and James still had a great time.

When I got home, my garden was green again!
