December 2001(about)? Observatory Ridge, Ben Nevis with Ed & Matt
On this day in December 2001, Ed Abbley, Matt Leggett and I walked up from the SYHA in Glen Nevis and got to the base of Observatory Ridge as it became light, on one of the shortest days of the year. We enthusiastically tied onto our 1 x 50m rope – end, middle, end. The route was in winter condition, but without any useful ice or neve unfortunately – so we made slightly slower progress than we would have liked. I had a wee fall on a steeper pitch, but Matt didn’t see it, feel it, or mention it, so I thought I wouldn’t either. It was dark when we summited and Matt didn’t let me do my normal ‘sorting out’ of the rack – so we just threw it in the bag and ran back to the Hostel – really good times.
