Welcome to Hunter Mountaineering
Max Hunter – Mountain Instructor Certificate (MIC)
I started life as a secondary school teacher, teaching Biology. During this career I discovered the Outdoor Industry and chose to move into this as a second career. I became a skier, caver, paddler, biker, climber and mountaineer. I eventually chose to leave much of this behind in favour of working as a Mountain Instructor. I went on to lead expeditions in Argentina, Peru, Greenland and the Alps, and had fun climbing in many other places. I initially just worked in Scotland for the winter seasons, but realised that I wanted to be here all year round – now I’m proud to call the Highlands home, living in Fort William, at the base of Ben Nevis.
Lena Hunter – Trainee Mountain Instructor Certificate (MICt)
As well as for Hunter Mountaineering Lena works at Outward Bound, Loch Eil, near Fort William – she has been there since about 2009. Her passion for climbing and mountaineering (and skiing) in Scotland has grown over the years, and she prefers British Trad climbing (summer + winter) over climbing in other countries (except sunny sport climbing in Spain). Lena is currently going through the Mountain Instructor Certificate (MIC) scheme – which is the highest mountaineering certificate in the U.K. This means that soon, Lena will also be able to guide on our winter mountaineering and climbing courses.
