I was out with Olga and Roisin with Dave observing (working) again today – with a poor forecast of strong southerly winds, and very poor visibility. I wanted to try our luck with the winds today though and still try to get the Stob Coire nan Lochan horseshoe completed. However, they both want to work on their descent skills this week, on moderately steep ground, so I decided to do the horseshoe in an anti clockwise direction. Not knowing how we would get on with the wind, we got onto the ridge on the RHS of the coire and slowly made our way up, past all the corniced gully rims. Before we knew it we found ourselves standing on the top – but to be honest with the view we had it could have been any cairn – anywhere! We took our first few steps down onto the descent ridge, and this is when the strong winds hit us. It was touch and go, but we managed to fight the wind and get down without a problem – Olga and Roisin later said it was definitely the type of fun that is reflective and not ‘at the time’! A great day – thank you to Dave Barber for his observation (voluntary work!) over the last 2 days – hope to see you back here in a few weeks time.
