Afterthought Arete
Posted by Max Hunter on 14th June, 2014
On Thursday I was working at Norwegian Lodge for ATC Scotland (Adventure training Centre, Scotland), alongside Graham with 4 Soldiers. Afterthought Arete on Stag Rocks was our objective for the day. The day turned out to have stunning weather – very warm, and incredible visibility. The climb starts of scrappy in the first pitch, but then becomes the quality rock that you would expect from a 3 star climb/scramble. I spent the climb checking out all the crags around the Loch Avon basin – for future trips. This is still an area I haven’t been to often in summer months.
My last time at Stag Rocks was this winter to do Apex Gully, and I had to do very careful nav to get there and back, but today the map and compass were away – at the top of the route we could clearly see the weather station on Cairngorm and the 1141m cairn – easy.
