Aonach Eagach – Friday
Posted by Max Hunter on 24th August, 2014
On Friday I was working for Abacus Mountain Guides.
The forecast for Friday was better than Thursday, we were set for a mostly dry day with only a few light showers. In the morning I met up with Ewen, Rebecca and their sons, Rory (14) and Alex (13). They wanted a family adventure on the Aonach Eagach ridge in Glencoe. We set off up the hill, and started on the ridge, but were soon overtaken by a couple of parties being led by Alan Halewood (working with Martin) and Di Gilbert. It turned out to be a busy but sociable day on the ridge. The rock was dry and so the scrambling was easier than Thursday, so the family made light work of much of the ridge. Rebecca and Ewen had completed the ridge themselves about 13 years ago, together, and so they had great memories of all the various difficulties. This was actually Ewen’s 5th crossing of the ridge.
Alex and Rory did really well and managed to get across the ridge with no problem. We even had several picnics along the way. Congratulations to the whole family for a great adventurous day out.
