Savage Slit After Rain
Posted by Max Hunter on 07th August, 2014
Last Monday Lena and I wanted to make the best of possible dry weather. We drove over to the Northern Corries in the Cairngorms and walked into Coire an Lochain to climb Savage Slit and the VS climbs there-abouts. The forecast was for ‘possible passing showers’ – on the walk in it started raining – great. We carried on, and sat down for a while at the base of the coire, sitting it out. Eventually it stopped raining, and after a further 45mins, we decided that it was probably dry enough to climb Savage Slit. When Lena started the climb, the first pitch, which looks like a scramble at worst, was wet and slippery, and the rock was cold! Pitch 2 was also wet and cold, and I had to be very selective about what I touched or stood on. The VD/S felt like a VS! Eventually we finished the climb, and it was fun, but I think we did it the hard way! There was eventually a team behind us, who probably had dryer warmer rock in the second half of the day. A great climb – but I’d like to go back one day when it’s warm and dry!
