Coire an t-Sneachda, Twin Ribs, Dry
Posted by Max Hunter on 06th December, 2014
Today Gustav and Sara were keen to see a different mountain area, and also keen to have some fine weather, so we headed off to Coire an t- Sneachda, and Twin Ribs. I didn’t know how much snow there would be, but was pleased to find a good amount on the climb to justify the axe and crampons. On the walk in, in the morning there was also lots of ice on the path. However, later in the day, on the walk out, much of this had melted due to the mild temperatures. Twin Ribs was also a good choice for shelter from the mild but strong SW winds. We had a relaxing time on the climb, whilst the clouds darted across the sky above. Using my anemometer, I measured gusts of 40mph on the walk in, on the path, and at one point a 76mph gust on the ridge at the top of Twin Ribs – so that’s why I didn’t walk in a straight line!
Sara and Gustav found the climb fun, enjoying the use of a technical axe, and working out how to hook and torque etc.
There were a few teams in the coire today, a couple on Twin Ribs, several in the floor of the coire looking at skills, and some climbers looking for an early season climb.
