Footpath Awareness Day
Posted by Max Hunter on 17th November, 2016
On Wednesday, the Friends of Nevis in association with the Nevis Landscape Partnership put on a day of CPD for Ben Nevis Footpath Awareness, run by Dougie Sinclair.
It was a great day learning all about the footpaths, why they are built, where they are built, how they are maintained, how the work is done, who does the work and how much it costs. I think most of the 150,000 annual users of the main mountain path are unaware of the issues and costs. The 9-12,000 annual users of the North Face car park path to CIC enjoy the quality path, but this costs a great deal to maintain, and there are issues around the CMD path, the ATV tracks and the trail down from the Meall an t-Suidhe Lochan.
