Winter Skills And Mountaineering On Ben Nevis
Posted by Max Hunter on 23rd November, 2013
Today I was out with Mark and Gavin (who work in Fort William at All Round Signs). They wanted to learn winter skills as well as start on the road to becoming independent for grade I/II. A tall order for 2 days! However they are fit, learn fast and there was only the two of them – so we moved right along. We covered a lot in the first day, which took us to the top of Number 4 gully on Ben Nevis. The weather was very kind to us today, and as we walked past the CIC the wind turbine wasn’t moving. However the snow was in a state of thaw, with the freezing level above the top of Number 4 gully. We got down to the cars without using headtorches – so all round, a good sign (spot the pun) for a great working winter season (rubbish punn!)
As we were walking down there were lots of people walking up – on their winter 3 peaks challenge I think they’ll still be up there now), Hannah Evans was guiding them up – best wishes for getting home soon!
