Jagged Globe – Introduction to Winter Mountaineering

Today was day 2 with Stuart, Mike, Nicola, Rachel, Penny and Emma. I chose to go to the slopes above the CIC hut, to put the group in crampons on steeper ground for the first time. We also started to look at navigation, continued to look at avalanche awareness, and started to look at snow anchors with bucket seats.

There were a few climbing teams about. I saw a team start up Tower Ridge, and they later abseiled off into the Douglas gap. I saw a team heading up to what was probably SW ridge, but later I saw a team retreating back from there – was this the same team retreating from Tower Ridge earlier? I saw another team which I think was Mike Pescod heading up to Castle Ridge with 2 clients. So it was a pretty quiet day for this side of Ben Nevis.
